Neymar will support Argentina in the final, because of Messi!
It might sound strange to hear that a Brazilian will be cheering for Argentina, especially if the game in question is the a FIFA World Cup final. That’s the case here though, since Neymar has already revealed his public support to the “Albiceleste” in this Sunday’s game against Germany, precisely the team who knocked out Brazil in the semi-finals round, after imposing them an humiliating 7-1 loss in Belo Horizonte.
The reason for Neymar backing up Argentina to win the World Cup has to do with the fact that two of his Barcelona teammates are playing for the “Albiceleste“. Both Javier Mascherano and Lionel Messi are expected to start the game against Germany this Sunday at the Maracanã and with Brazil‘s chances of clinching the World Cup title in their own home ground, Neymar had no problems in revealing his preference for seeing his Argentinian friends doing it…
Neymar: “I hope my club teammates in Argentina, Mascherano and Messi, end up winning that game. For everything he has done for football, everything he has already accomplished on a club level, I think that Messi deserves it more than anyone else. I’ll be cheering for him because he is a very good friend of mine. May he have the best of luck this Sunday!”, stated the 22-year old.
Even though it might sound a bit illogical, Neymar tried to detach his support from Argentina, claiming that he won’t really cheer for their national team, but rather only for his friends there.
Neymar: “I won’t be exactly cheering for Argentina. I’ll be behind my Barcelona teammates and Messi in particular, since he’s someone who I admire a lot especially after having had the opportunity to play and train by his side on a daily basis. I realized how good he is when I moved to Spain and I can tell you he is even more special in practices than he is in games. I’m a true fan of Messi!”, remarked the Brazilian international.
