What’s next for Nani after his Manchester United journey?
The 27-year old winger from Manchester United might have his days counted at Old Trafford, as reports from England seem to suggest that the Portuguese star isn’t the type of player that the club’s new coach, Louis Van Gaal, is praticularly fond of. The Dutch tactician arrives to Manchester after going through a positive campaign with the Netherlands at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where the “Orange” finished in 3rd place.
Nani arrived to England in the summer of 2007 and after promising a lot in his first years as a Red Devil player, his contribution and performance over the last couple of seasons have been way below the expectations put on him. During the 7 seasons he played for Manchester United, Nani had 227 appearances and scored a total of 40 goals.
His journey with Manchester United and eventually in England will probably come to an end this summer. After playing for Portugal in the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil and getting eliminated while still in the group stages, Nani admitted that the next step in his career might involve a switch to another club and possibly another country too.
Nani: “I’m still a Manchester United player as of now, but I know there have been a few clubs out there asking about my availability and transfer status. I’ll have to assess every option I have at this stage of my career and then decide what’s best for me and my family. Returning to Portugal is a possibility, but I didn’t made my mind yet…”, stated the former Sporting CP player.
Over the last weeks, many rumors came out about several clubs being interested in signing Nani. On the front line are Juventus and Arsenal, but a return to his origins in Lisbon is also seen as a strong possibility. In any case, his departure from Manchester United this summer is almost a certainty these days…
