Yaya Touré turns down Manchester United

Few certainly could argue against the claim that Yaya Touré has been one of the reasons why Manchester City has been on the very top of English football over the past few years. The Ivorian midfielder has been one of the Citizens driving forces in the previous seasons, but a lot of speculation about him moving out to either his club’s rivals Manchester United or even to PSG, has started coming up to the surface earlier in this summer.

It was the player himself who decided to clear things out this past Friday, as he spoke to the cameras and assured that he intends to honor his contract with Manchester City, a signed agreement which will only expire in 3 years from now, in 2017.

Yaya Touré: “City fans have always been good to me and they’ve always showed a great consideration for my family too. I definitely want to stay at the club, and I want to carry my contract through right until it ends. I’m not very worried about these transfer rumors [linking Touré with Manchester United and PSG], since I’m very happy where I am now and I hope to be able to enjoy the upcoming season”, stated the 31-year old midfielder.

All these rumors and speculation seem to have started shortly after Man City clinched the English Premier League title last season, with Touré‘s agent noting by then that his player had been disappointed with the fact that the club had forgotten about marking his birthday. It’s Touré who now devalues that incident and assures that the only thing in his mind these days is to prepare himself to help the team achieving as most success as possible in the 2014-15 season.

Touré: “All is fine now. A lot has been talked and said, which was a bit disappointing in some cases… However, I feel I owed the fans a statement like this one, because I know this is important for them to know. They’ve done a lot for me and I’m not going anywhere. Manchester City is getting ready for this new season and all I want to is to win again the title”, commented the former FC Barcelona player, who may have turned down offers from Manchester United and PSG in recent weeks.

Manchester City‘s next game is a friendly against Kansas City on July 23, a game which already be part of their US pre-season tour in 2014-15.
