Didier Drogba might make his return to Chelsea FC

by

Even though José Mourinho recently admitted that Chelsea had finished their “shopping” in the transfer market this season, rumors from France are suggesting that the Blue are preparing to snatch back their legendary striker Didier Drogba from Galatasaray, if Fernando Torres does get sold in the days or weeks ahead.

The allegation was initially spread by “L’Equipe, a popular French newspaper who is usually very well informed on the typical transfer rumors from this summer season. Chelsea already signed another world-class striker during this transfer window, as they’ve bought Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, after agreeing to pay close to 40 million euros for the Brazilian-born forward. If they close the deal on Drogba, he will become the club’s 5th signing of this summer, following Diego Costa and Filipe Luis (Atletico Madrid), Cesc Fabregas (FC Barcelona), and Mario Pasalic (Hadjuk Split).

Drogba is currently 36-years old and his return to Chelsea could result in a 1-year contract with the team, but with the promise of extending his stay afterwards, as a member of José Mourinho‘s coaching staff.

Even in the case of Fernando Torres staying, the truth is that Chelsea have already lost two strikers since the end of last season (Samuel Etoo and Demba Ba) and only signed Diego Costa for that vital position on the field. There should be more developments on this topic over the next days, as Chelsea is now preparing their pre-season tour in the United States.
