Louis van Gaal: “Winning against Real Madrid is always huge”

by

Manchester United have beaten Real Madrid by 3 goals to 1 this Saturday night in Michigan, as the Red Devils advanced to the ICC (International Champions Cup) tournament’s final, in which they’ll face Liverpool this Monday night. One of the happiest man on the pitch after the game was over was naturally the English side manager, Louis van Gaal.

The Dutchman started by confessing his surprise on seeing such a big support to Manchester United in the United States, particularly in this game that was held in Michigan and where a new record was set for the highest attendance ever in a soccer game in North America. More than 109.000 fans watched the game live from the Michigan stadium, which granted this Real Madrid vs Manchester United a very special atmosphere.

Van Gaal: “It’s truly amazing to see so many people involved in a game like this and this has been a very rich experience for all our players”, started by pointing out the former Dutch National Team manager.

With a thrilling final coming up this Monday, as Liverpool takes on Manchester United in Miami, Van Gaal prefers to only focus on the fact that this tournament has been showing us how strong the Premier League will be in this upcoming season.

Van Gaal: “I think it’s great for English football to have two teams making it to the final next Monday. This game we just played against Real Madrid was far from being an ordinary friendly, since they clearly didn’t want it to lose it and that’s why they even ended up bringing on Cristiano Ronaldo earlier than they had initially planned. Winning against Real Madrid is always an huge accomplishment”, stated the 62-year old coach.

Manchester United and Liverpool will lock horns this Monday night at the Met Life stadium in Miami, in order to decide who wins the 2014 ICC tournament edition.
