Manchester United signs Angel Di María for 75 million euros
Manchester United has signed Real Madrid‘s Argentine star Angel Di María for 75 million euros, plus a variable fee that could still go up to another 15 million euros, depending on a few objectives stated in his contract. The 26-year old winger has played for the Merengues in the past 4 seasons, having scored a total of 36 goals in 190 games.
Even though he was also being disputed by PSG, Di María ended up choosing Manchester United as his next destination and start a new chapter in his career, this time in a more physical stage as it is the English football. He June 2010, he moved from Benfica to Real Madrid through a business valued around the 25-million euros, but this summer, he basically tripled his previous transfer fee and broke the Red Devil‘s signing record in a stunning 75-million euros deal.
In Man Utd and under Louis Van Gaal‘s command, Di María will be offered a 5-year contract and a yearly 8-million euros salary. Among a couple other factors, his wage was reportedly the main reason why he didn’t renew his bond with Real Madrid, since the Merengues weren’t willing to pay the Argentinian star such a big amount of money after having signed James Rodríguez just a few weeks ago, who is expected to take over his spot in midfield.
Di María will take Manchester United‘s legendary jersey number 7, previously worn by players like George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, or his now former teammate in Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo.
There have also been a few reports suggesting that Di María‘s final choice has been influenced by Cristiano Ronaldo‘s advices, who, as we know, still holds Manchester United in extreme high regard. Whether or not that happened, Di María will certainly be excited to be part of a new project in England, where he hopes to be more appreciated than he has been in Madrid.
