Arsenal pre-season schedule in 2014-2015
After having finally managed to win a trophy for the Gunners at the end of last season (the FA Cup), Arsène Wenger is hoping for this to finally be the year where he manages to lead Arsenal to win major titles, either in England or in Europe. The club recently bought one of the biggest stars from FC Barcelona after signing Alexis Sánchez for a 40-million euros transfer fee, but it’s likely that they will keep active on the market by still chasing a couple more high-profile footballers in the weeks to come.
Arsenal‘s pre-season this year will include a total of 4 friendlies, with 3 of those being played in England. The first match was already played a few days ago on July 19, when they traveled to Boreham Wood to meet the local side and managed to beat them by 0-2, thanks to goals scored by two Arsenal youngsters’, Olsson and Afobe.
They’ll make a quick trip to the United States to face the New York Red Bulls on July 26, but they’ll be back to London by the end of the month, in order to prepare the yearly Emirates Cup, a tournament hosted at their own stadium.
This year in the Emirates Cup, Arsenal will challenge the Portuguese champions SL Benfica and the French powerhouse AS Monaco. The two matches will take place on August 2 and August 3, precisely one week before the first official fixture of the season for the Gunners. Arsène Wenger‘s men will take on Manchester City on August 10 at the Wembley Stadium (London), in order to decide who will take home the 2014 FA Community Shield.
The English Premier League kicks off on the 16th of August of 2014, right on the weekend after the FA Community Shield final. Arsenal debuts on a Saturday, with a home game against Crystal Palace, a team who finished in 11th place last season.
