Luis Suárez receives the 2014 Golden Boot in Barcelona

by

This past Wednesday, Luis Suárez has received the 2014 Golden Boot (aka Golden Shoe) in Barcelona, an award which the Uruguayan will have to share with Real Madrid‘s Cristiano Ronaldo, due to the fact that both players finished last season with the same amount of goals in their respective leagues.

While Suárez scored a total of 31 goals in 33 appearances for Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League during the 2013-14 season, Cristiano Ronaldo netted the exact same amount of goals (31), but in 30 appearances. However and since the coefficient only takes into account the number of goals scored and the league where they were achieved, the amount of matches played wasn’t valid to be used as a tie-breaker factor.

The two players will have their first chance to meet on the field in Spain on October 25, on a day where Real Madrid will be hosting Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu for the first Clasico of the season. Suárez, who got handed a 3-month ban following his biting incident in the World Cup, will be finally left off the hook just in time of that important weekend, meaning he could make his debut for Barça against the club’s arch-rival and  at the Santiago Bernabéu.
