Robben: “Messi and Ronaldo are two monsters”

The 2014 FIFA Ballon d’Or is going to be announced in a couple months from now, but at this stage of the campaign it’s already clear who are the two top favorites to the best player in the world crown. Just like in many of the previous editions in recent years, Real Madrid‘s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona‘s Lionel Messi are by far the strongest candidates and even Arjen Robben – one of the 23 players included in the Ballon d’Or shortlist – showed no problems in admitting the two superstars are simply on a different level from the competition

Arjen Robben: “I don’t like doing comparisons between players, but the truth is that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are two monsters in this game. What they’ve done in the past 6 years goes beyond the imaginable. They’re better than everyone around them. However, there are also a few other extraordinary players like a few of my teammates here in Bayern Munich and some of them even won the 2014 FIFA World Cup last summer, so it’s still hard to tell at this point who’s going to get the most votes”, stated the former Chelsea and Real Madrid winger.

The Dutchman has been in great form this season and so far he has already scored 6 goals in 10 appearances for the German champions.

Robben: “Winning the FIFA Ballon d’Or has never been an obsession for me. It’s an individual award and I’ve always prioritized the collective trophies. Nevertheless, winning it would be a great acknowledgement and a reason to be very proud of”, revealed the 30-year old attacking midfielder in an interview to the France Football magazine.
