Fernando Torres could be back to Atletico Madrid this summer
Fernando Torres might be close to return to Atletico Madrid this summer, after Chelsea and Atletico Madrid having recently engaged in intense talks that resulted in the transfers of both Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to the British capital. The Colchoneros already signed Mandzukic from Bayern Munich in the beginning of the summer, but having lost not only Costa but also David Villa might be enough to keep them on the market chasing another reinforcement for their attacking sector.
After being transferred from Atletico to Liverpool back in 2007, “El Niño” immediately made an impact in the English Premier League and became one of the most prolific and coveted strikers in Europe. He scored 33 goals in 46 games for the Reds right on his first season, but his performances’ level started decreasing when he moved to Chelsea, in the 2010-11 season. During his 4 seasons in London, Torres only managed to score 45 goals in 172 games, after having costed the club close to 50 million pounds.
His “El Niño” nickname might no longer suit him as before, since Torres is now 30-years old and probably will never be able to show again that great form he has had in his early days in both Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.
As usual, the talks between the clubs seem to be bumping into a money issue. While Chelsea are demanding a 13 million pounds fee for Torres, Atletico Madrid aren’t willing to go beyond the 10 million pounds.
